A recent report published by state-run media in Iran states, “The increasing number of divorces, the decreasing age of widows and increasing rate of unemployment amongst women are some reasons why the number of single mothers is on the rise. They are facing more problems and becoming more vulnerable.”
Majid Abhari, an expert of social vulnerability and behavioral science said, “The number of young widows has reached the age of 16. These women lack adequate substantive support and there is a lack of efforts to create job opportunities. This has led to an increase in social damages amongst women.”
