Political prisoner Hakimeh Shokri, who was held in Evin Prison from December 2012, was illegally transferred to Gharchak Varamin Prison last December while only a few months remained from her prison sentence.
Evin Prison officials had transferred Ms. Shokri to Gharchak Varamin Prison, where ordinary female prisoners are held, without any of her personal belongings.
Hakimeh Shokri has numerously protested her transfer to Gharchak and the inadequate conditions of this prison. After making threats of staging a hunger strike and refusing any meetings if her rights are not respected, she was finally returned to Evin Prison on March 31.
Suffering from chalazion, she was deprived of basic medical needs such as warm water compression while in Gharchak prison.
