[Iran: arresting women for hijab] On Tuesday, August 12th, a number of girls in Tehran were leaving a sports club when they were harassed and insulted by two Bassij members, ordering them to cover their foreheads! The girls resisted the orders and started to argue with the Basij forces. One of the girls even took off her headscarf and demanded the Bassij agents to get out of their way. When the agents attempted to arrest the girls, people at the scene rushed to their support and began beating the Bassij members, forcing them to flee the scene.
The next day in northern Tehran clashes erupted between a number of young women and the ‘Guidance’ police. Several young men witnessing the scene rushed to the womens’ help. However, they were attacked by plainclothes agents, who arrived at the scene with various weapons. One of them viciously kicked a young girl in the stomach. The plainclothes used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
