Raymonde Folco – Former Canadian MP
Let us first salute our sisters in Liberty, Ashraf and in Iran. These women are the first victims of Islamic fundamentalism. The goal of our presence today is to prove our solidarity with the victims of the religious fascist regime.
Women are target of the mullahs’ repressive and strict laws. Therefore it is the women who have the key of equality and freedom in their hands. Women are the force of change, as it’s the topic of today’s conference. Iranian women and especially female members of the Iranian resistance have been and are the force of change in their struggle, just as they have been struggling against fundamentalism for 3 decades.
They have become strong leaders capable of leading tough struggles without fear and doubt. But the force of these women, their bravery and will has made these vicious dictators take revenge and massacre the women and men of this movement that, let’s not forget, is led by women. All women have duties to help their sisters in Camp Liberty.
Today the struggle is tougher than this, because not only is it led by women and men in Camp Liberty against demon forces of Iran and Iraq, but we are faced by the inaction or I must say, complicity of the UN.
What has the UN representative to Iraq to condemn the February 9th attack on camp Liberty where seven people including one women were killed. UN representative Martin Kobler was not neutral. His abuse of Ashraf’s case is in violation of the UN charters.
We urge for independent investigations. Contrary to what was presented to the world camp Liberty is even more dangerous than camp Ashraf. Therefore, we want the residents of Liberty be allowed to return to Ashraf.
Where have is the UNHCR in this matter and what have they done? It was a long day today with many speakers but I think that for all women who have spoken here today from all over the world it is important that our voice be the voice of sup[port for Mrs. Maryam Rajavi Let us honor this day to the resistant women imprisoned in Liberty and Ashraf and also in the larger prison in Iran under the mullahs. Women of Iran, we pledge our solidarity and support to you!
