In the 66th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, families of political prisoners on death row and groups of young protesters gathered in four Iranian cities—Tehran, Rasht, Bukan, and Shahriar—to voice their opposition to the issuance and implementation of death sentences.
Tehran: Families Raise Their Voices Outside Evin Prison
Outside Tehran’s Evin Prison, families of ten political prisoners facing execution held a protest, once again holding up photos of their loved ones, handwritten signs, and placards bearing slogans such as “No to Execution” and “Immediate Abolition of Death Sentences.”
The prisoners named include Vahid Bani-Amarian, Pouya Ghobadi, Mohammad Taghavi Sangdehi, Abolhassan Montazer, Babak Alipour, Akbar Daneshvarkar, Mehdi Hassani, Behrouz Ehsani Eslamlou, Mohammad-Javad Vafaee Thani, and Manouchehr Fallah.
Chanting slogans like “No to Execution” and “No to Oppressive Sentences,” the protesters demanded an immediate halt to the issuing and carrying out of death sentences against political activists and protesters.
Coinciding with Nationwide Prisoner Hunger Strikes
These street protests coincided with a coordinated hunger strike in 41 prisons across Iran, staged by prisoners.
In a statement released to mark the campaign’s 66th week, the striking prisoners extended condolences to the families of victims of a recent deadly explosion in Bandar Abbas, holding the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) accountable for the tragedy.
Protest in the Women’s Ward of Evin
Hunger-striking political prisoners held in the Women’s Ward of Evin held a protest at 11 a.m. in solidarity with the families having a protest outside Evin Prison. They chanted the names of each death-row political prisoner, demanded that their death sentences be annulled, and all political prisoners be freed.
