Following is an update on the situation of three female political prisoners in Iran: Sakineh Parvaneh, Zahra Shafeii, and Donya Hosseini.

According to reports from the Central Prison of Mashhad on Friday, October 13, 2023, the Ministry of Intelligence has refrained from giving back the birth certificate and the national card belonging to the Kurdish political prisoner Sakineh Parvaneh.

Without her birth certificate and national ID card, Ms. Parvaneh is having problems trying to purchase goods from the prison store or having money deposited into her account.

Political prisoner Sakineh Parvaneh was informed on September 25, of her sentence of 7.5 years.

Five security services agents ransacked the residence of the imprisoned author, Zahra Shafeii, in Tehran on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. They confiscated some of the belongings of Ms. Shafeii and her family, including her books, and their cell phones.

Zahra Shafeii was violently arrested in Tehran on September 16, the anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death in police custody. She was initially transferred and transferred to Evin Prison.

During the initial days of her arrest, Zahra Shafeii exposed the security forces’ violent treatment of detainees by female agents. They wore black chadors, military uniforms, and black masks. There was a large number of them who insulted, humiliated, and brutalized young women and girls and took them to an undisclosed location.

Despite spending two months in detention, Donya Hosseini (Azad) is still detained in limbo in Evin Prison, without standing trial.

Judicial authorities have not provided transparent information on the conditions of Donya Hosseini to her family in response to their repeated inquiries.

Security forces arrested Donya Hosseini in Tehran on August 12, 2023.

Donya Hosseini, 35, resides in Tehran. She was arrested in November 2022 during the nationwide protests in Iran. She was released from Evin Prison after some time.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
