in Women's News

The first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Sari sentenced Bita Haqqani Nasimi to 18 years of imprisonment, two years of ban on leaving the country, and confiscation of the “tools of committing crimes” in favor of the government and notified her lawyer.

Sari is the capital of Mazandaran Province in northern Iran, along the Caspian Sea.

Majid Kaveh, Bita Haqqani Nasimi’s lawyer, published a post announcing that the verdict is objectionable.

Bita Haqqani Nasimi, 22, from Sari, is a blogger and a graphic arts student in Sari. Security forces arrested her on October 18, 2022, during nationwide protests. After completing her interrogations, she was transferred to Qaemshahr prison.

During the interrogation, Bita Haqqani Nasimi was accused of “Corruption on Earth.”

Nazli Saeedi sentenced to 15 months in prison and fined

The Court of First Instance of Branch I of Tabriz Revolutionary Coury sentenced Nazli Saeedi to 15 months in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security” and to pay a fine of 10 million Tomans and a 2-year ban on leaving the country on the charge of “propaganda against the state.” The ruling still needs to be upheld by an appeals court.

Nazli Saeedi is a 4th-year medical student at Ardabil University and a 7th-semester guest medical student at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.

On October 26, 2022, Nazli Saeedi was arrested for carrying tracts and removing the mandatory hijab during nationwide protests. On December 19, 2022, she was temporarily released on bail by taking into consideration her medical records and her inability to bear imprisonment.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
