In a very interesting interview on the eve of the UN summit on September 27, one of the Iranian regime’s misogynous activists has very well revealed the nature,
model and objectives of the Iranian regime on gender equality and women’s empowerment and their contradiction to universal goals and objectives of the equality movement.
In an interview with Fars news agency, Minoo Aslani, head of the Women’s Community Mobilization Organization, declared, “If we pursue empowerment according to imported plans and instructions of the Population Fund, it is totally contradictory to our culture and the different roles that women have. In that case, such mottos and plans would drive us backward…”
Citing remarks by the mullahs’ supreme leader Ali Khamenei, Aslani said, “It’s not an honor to have a certain number of female deputies in the parliament or to have a female minister. Our pride is that our knowledgeable and brave women are always present in the scenes to defend the Islamic revolution and in the trenches of social responsibilities that suit their spirits.”
She also declared her outright opposition to setting gender quotas to facilitate and improve women’s participation. Dubbing such a measure as anti-democratic, she opined, “Creating an atmosphere for various groups to have a certain number of women in their lists of candidates is against the pillars of democracy. If we believe in democracy, it is against the foundations of people’s freedoms to force them into voting for a certain number of women.”
