In the 136th consecutive week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, prisoners in 62 prisons across Iran went on hunger strike on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, once again protesting the issuance and implementation of death sentences.
Iranshahr Prison Joins the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign
Over three years of continuous activity, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has expanded beyond a few prisons to become the most widespread organized protest movement in Iranian prisons against the death penalty.
Continuing this trend, Iranshahr Prison has joined the participating prisons, bringing the total number of prisons taking part in the campaign to 62.
The gradual increase in the number of participating prisons reflects the growing demand among prisoners to halt executions and the transformation of this demand into a collective and sustained protest.
About the “No to Executions Tuesdays” Campaign
Now in its third year, the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign has become the most widespread, enduring, and impactful protest movement within Iran’s prisons. Despite intensified security pressures, constant threats, communication restrictions, and punitive measures against participants, the protest movement has not been silenced.
A significant portion of the striking inmates consists of female political prisoners serving their sentences in the women’s wards of Evin Prison, Qarchak Prison in Varamin, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, Zahedan Prison, Yazd Prison, and Rasht Prison.
