On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, political prisoners in 52 prisons across Iran once again launched a hunger strike as part of the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign, voicing their defiance against the regime’s repressive and execution-driven policies.
Sustained for 86 weeks, the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign has become one of the most powerful symbols of resistance against state repression.
In this week’s statement, prisoners honored the memory of Mahsa (Jina) Amini and the victims of the nationwide 2022 uprising, emphasizing that although the historic movement of the Iranian people was met with bullets and brutal repression, “resistance in the streets and neighborhoods continues.”
The statement further warned against the issuance of new death sentences, declaring:
“The No to Execution Tuesdays campaign strongly condemns the death sentence handed down to Pejman Tobreh-Rizi on fabricated charges of ‘corruption on earth,’ as well as the sentence against Kurdish prisoner Naser Bakrzadeh on security-related accusations. We call on all human rights defenders and civil society to resist these unlawful and unjust verdicts.”

Families Demand Abolition of the Death Penalty
The families of political and death-row prisoners play a pivotal role in this campaign. Despite threats and relentless pressure from security forces, mothers and other relatives stand at protests holding photos of their loved ones, underscoring the Iranian people’s urgent and rightful call to abolish the death penalty.
This demand has not only influenced Iranian society but has also resonated internationally, amplifying the voices of protesters far beyond Iran’s borders.
