Melika and Mitra Salehianpour, two students from Minoodasht, lost their lives in the collapse of the Metropol building in Abadan.
The head of the General Department of Education of Khuzestan announced the death of 5 students in the Metropol building incident. Melika, Mitra Salehianpour, Masih Sadeghi from Khorramshahr, and Arian and Hamidreza Jalilian from Abadan lost their lives in this incident.
The Metropol Tower, built by Khamenei’s mafia gangs, collapsed on the people of Abadan on May 23, 2022, due to its unsuitability of the structures.
The debris removal operations have been running very slowly over the past few days. Government officials refuse to disclose the exact number of casualties. They also obstruct public aid in pulling citizens out from under the rubble.
On May 31, 2022, the state-run news agency Fars reported that the number of people killed in the collapse of the Metropol Tower was 34, according to the governor of Abadan.
The state-run Nam Namak website published the names of some of the women who died in this tragic incident:
Melika and Mitra Salehianpour, two sisters who were 12 and 14 years old
The newly-wed couple, Maryam Kaabi and Amir Masoumi had opened a café in the newly built tower. The couple and Shirin Masoumi, Amir’s sister, were among the dead.

Melika and Mitra Salehianpour died under the Metropol rubbles
Melika and Mitra Salehianpour, two 12- and 14-year-old schoolgirls, went to the doctor with their mother and aunt-in-law. When their mother went to the pharmacy to get medicine, the metropolis building collapsed. Her two daughters and their aunt-in-law remained under the rubbles. The aunt-in-law, Fatemeh Khalfizadeh, 32, was the mother of a 4-month-old boy and two girls, aged 8 and 12. She lived with her family in Sarbandar, and they had come to Abadan to see a doctor.
Fatemeh Khalfizadeh, Melika, and Mitra lost their lives in this incident. A family relative said they tried to remove Melika’s body in the first moments. The bodies of Mitra and Ms. Khalfizadeh remained trapped under the rubble.
The families only demand to pull out their loved ones from under the rubble and bury them with their own hands.
Melika’s friends at school placed her photo frame on the bench with a bouquet on her empty seat and cherished her memory. (matlabnew.ir – June 2022)
Women rushed to the scene to help
Abadan police did not allow a couple to continue their help in discovering the victims’ bodies from under the rubbles. The brave couple rushed to the scene with their trained dogs and found 18 people under the rubble. They were helping for three days. The conscientious couple worked around the clock for three days, even abandoning their child during their 3-day efforts to rescue their compatriots. But the mullahs’ brutal regime deprives people even of helping others.
Women were at the forefront of anti-government demonstrations and mourning ceremonies for those killed under the rubble of the Metropolis building. They demonstrated in many Iranian cities, including Abadan, Khorramshahr, Tehran, Andimeshk, Shahin Shahr, Shiraz, Bushehr, Yazd, Behbahan, Omidiyeh, Sarbandar, Mahshahr, and dozens of villages in Khuzestan, chanting “Death to Khamenei.” Anti-government protests have been going on for a week after the Metropol building disaster.
The regime responds to the protesters with bullets and tear gas.
