On International Nurses Day, One Nurse Dies and Another Faints

On International Nurses Day, a selfless and hard-working nurse named Zahra (Behnaz) Mostaedi died at Labafinejad Hospital in Tehran. The 42-year-old nurse suffered a cardiac arrest due to pressure at work.

Behnaz Mostaedi worked in the hospital’s ICU, caring for Coronavirus patients around the clock. She died while on duty (The state-run Naja News Agency – May 13, 2020).

In Khuzestan Province, a selfless nurse, Zahra Absalan, fell to the ground after fainting due to excessive fatigue. She oversees the laboratory in Hamidiyeh and had been working while fasting.

After administering dozens of coronavirus tests, she fainted from the heat, caused by the thick protective garb she was wearing.

On International Nurses Day, Zahra Absalan published her photo on social media and wrote, “Our colleagues are having a difficult time…Wearing (protective) clothes, glasses, gloves, and masks has increased the pressure on our healthcare colleagues” (The state-run Sobh-e Sahel News Agency – May 13, 2020).

Meanwhile, the number of patients and victims of coronavirus in Iran is rising after the quarantine was lifted prematurely.

All the staff at Vali-e-Asr Health Center in Maniuhi Village in Abadan have contracted Covid-19.

The staff at this health center include three doctors and five nurses. The health center has been closed and patients have been told to go to a different health center.

According to a witness, the scene was very painful to watch. A young nurse became very upset when she found out she had been infected with the coronavirus. Another nurse bravely grabbed a state security force commander who was at the scene and ordered him to leave.

“All of these personnel are dying because the officials have been negligent. I have three children, and if I contract the virus, rest assured that I will transmit it to you, because you tormented people,” she declared.

Security officials at the health center prohibited people from filming or taking photos.

Maniuhi is a village in the Arvandkenar district and among the most critical villages in Abadan.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
