A 16-year-old Iranian girl who had been forced into marriage died after committing suicide.
She lived in a village in Kouhdasht of Lorestan, western Iran. She had been forced into marriage by her family, three months ago.
She hanged herself by her scarf on October 25, 2017 when she was alone at home. Family problems has been reported as the cause of suicide by the victims whose name has not been announced.
Iranian officials have repeatedly acknowledged that child marriage rate is on the rise and cause of concern. (The state-run Young Journalists’ Club – October 26, 2017)
“People who commit suicide feels that nobody sees or cares about them,” a sociologist member of the Scientific Boards of Allameh University said.
“Suicide in Iran is being feminized and younger,” he added. (The state-run ILNA news agency – October 27, 2017)
