Informed sources said the court ruling for the case against Atena Farghadani and her lawyer, Mohammad Moghimi has been issued, yet judiciary officials are refusing to announce the results for unknown reasons.
The charges raised against Atena on charges of shaking her lawyer’s hand, had prompted her to launch a 3-day hunger strike protesting the verbal harassment of prison guards. Farghadani’s mother has called the charges “false allegations”, “illegal and against religious customs”.
Atena Farghadani, an artist and civil activist, was charged with “illegitimate relations” after shaking hands with her (then) lawyer, Mohammad Moghimi, in prison. Her lawyer was also arrested and transferred to Gohardasht Prison of Karaj, west of Tehran.
Farghadani said her satire cartoons were the main reason behind her interrogations. She is currently held in the women’s ward of Evin Prison.
