The 38th branch of the Iranian High Court of Justice issued a new verdict on political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared before her defense lawyer who had asked for revision of her case, submits his defense to the court.
Ms. Akbari Monfared has three daughters. She has spent six years in prison without even one day of leave. She suffers from various illnesses and needs to receive proper medical care. She was arrested in January 2010 and condemned to 15 years in jail on the charge of membership in the PMOI, a charge she has repeatedly denied. Her lawyer planned to have her sentence commuted and secure her release based on Act 134 of the regime’s Penal Code, but the court issued its verdict before examining the lawyer’s defense.
