“We need to have a law to expand our Islamic-Iranian culture such that it embraces all behaviors including our remarks, manners, hairstyle (!) and all the affairs related to our lifestyle,” said Laleh Eftekhari citing the regime’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
Eftekhari who made the above comment in a television interview, is a member of the mullahs’ parliament who has signed the Plan to Protect the Sanctity of Veil and Chastity.
While admitting that Iranian women’s defiance of the compulsory veiling as a small part of the general discontent against the ruling regime, she said: “Our society’s main problem is not veiling and chastity.”
Meanwhile she called for reinforcement of the laws on mandatory veiling by integrating them into one comprehensive and all-embracing booklet: “We already have 25 laws, regulations and ratifications adopted by the parliament and the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution on non-veiling and mal-veiling. We need to integrate all the laws in this regard.”
