In the 133rd week of the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign, political prisoners in 59 prisons across Iran staged a hunger strike on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, once again expressing their firm opposition to the continued issuance and implementation of death sentences.
Part of the campaign’s statement this week reads:
The execution regime has executed at least 342 prisoners since March 21 (the beginning of Iranian calendar year 1405) to date. Among those executed were 10 women, 2 individuals who were children at the time of their sentencing, and 37 political prisoners….
The ruling authorities seek to use these executions to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation in society and to silence every voice of dissent. During this period, a number of prisoners who protested against executions were transferred to solitary confinement or faced new legal cases brought against them.
At the same time, by reopening and pursuing collective cases such as the Alikhani Square, Shohada Square of Isfahan, Shandiz, and Esfarayen cases, and by issuing death sentences or lengthy prison terms, the authorities aim to intimidate society. However, these measures only deepen public anger.
We, the members of the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign, express our appreciation to all segments of society, including artists who have supported the anti-execution movement and the families of those who have been executed.
We continue to call on all people across Iran, from every social group, to join protests against the unchecked use of the death penalty, as retirees have done, and to declare their support for the anti-execution movement and the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign.”
About the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign
Now in its third year, the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign has become the most widespread, enduring, and influential protest movements inside Iran’s prisons. Despite intensified security pressures, ongoing threats, communication restrictions, and punitive measures against participants, the campaign has continued uninterrupted. In recent weeks, the movement has expanded further as additional prisoners from various prisons joined the initiative, strengthening opposition to the death penalty.
A significant portion of these striking prisoners consists of female political prisoners serving their sentences in the women’s wards of Evin Prison, Qarchak Prison in Varamin, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, Zahedan Prison, Yazd Prison, and Lakan Prison in Rasht.
