Dr. Zohreh Fazeli was killed on Friday, January 9, 2026, during protests in the city of Bushehr. She was shot by regime security forces firing from inside a mosque.
Zohreh had previously battled cancer and was also living with multiple sclerosis. Yet she confronted both illnesses with extraordinary resilience and an unwavering love of life. Through determination and years of rigorous study, she earned her medical degree.
Dr. Zohreh Fazeli was 38 years old and a native of Bushehr. Her funeral was held under heavy security pressure imposed by the authorities.
In a tribute posted on Instagram, one of her friends wrote: “Cancer could not defeat her, because her name was destined to become eternal in the struggle for Iran’s freedom.”
