On August 1, 1982, a pivotal event unfolded in Tehran—the heroic resistance of PMOI women and men against an armed assault by the Revolutionary Guards and Committee forces. This battle showcased the unwavering courage of women who stood at the forefront.

As dawn broke that day, the Revolutionary Guards encircled the PMOI bases in Tehran. Soon after receiving their final orders, the enemy launched an attack using semi-heavy weapons, accompanied by the deafening sound of explosions.

In the face of this onslaught, brave women took their positions, defying the armed enemy. Their remarkable resistance came at a cost—many lost their lives due to the relentless gunfire and explosions. Among these courageous individuals were:

  • Afsaneh Aminian (Amertusi)
  • Fatemeh Asna-Ashari
  • Esmat Ahmadi
  • Zobeida (Mahrokh) Jafari Sani
  • Soheila Bani-Ghazi
  • Maryam Hosseini
  • Maryam Khodaei Sefat
  • Nahid Rahmani
  • Azam Rezaei
  • Tahereh Zahedi
  • Faezeh Zaerian Moghadam
  • Sedigheh Karbasi
  • Sedigheh Shams Fard
  • Fatemeh Minaei Mirzaei
  • Zohreh Goudarzi
  • Nahid Miri Chimeh
  • Tahereh Vaziri

Among these valiant fighters, one stands out—a sixty-year-old mother named Sedigheh Karbasi (Ehtesam al-Sadat Zaerian). She stood shoulder-to-shoulder with her fellow men and women, resisting until the end. Even after 38 years, this indomitable spirit remains etched in memory.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
