Despite her physical condition, the political prisoner Raheleh Rahemipour has been deprived of proper medical care and hospitalization.
Mrs. Rahemipour, 71 years old, suffers from several physical ailments, including a brain tumor, and needs specialized treatment. However, the Evin prison officials have prevented her from being sent to medical centers outside the prison due to her failure to comply with the mandatory hijab. Recently, Raheleh Rahemipour has been banned from meeting her family.
The political prisoner Raheleh Rahemipour is one of the families of the prisoners executed in the 1980s. Mrs. Rahemipour has been trying for years to clarify the truth about the disappearance of her brother and nephew who were imprisoned in the 1980s.
Her brother Hossein Rahemipour, a dentist, was arrested along with his pregnant wife in 1983. His daughter Golrou was born in Evin Prison.
When she was 15 days old, Golrou was separated from her mother for supposed medical care and was not returned to her. In April 1984, the authorities informed the Rahemipour family that Golrou had passed away, without showing them her death certificate or grave.
Raheleh Rahemipour was arrested by the security forces in Tehran on November 12, 2019, and transferred to the IRGC Intelligence Ward 2A of Evin Prison and after a while she was temporarily released from prison.
She was accused of “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the state.” Ms. Rahmipour’s court hearing was held on June 17, 2020, at branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, and she was eventually sentenced to six years in prison by the said court.
Raheleh Rahemipour was arrested in mid-November 2023 after appearing in the Evin courthouse and was transferred to Evin prison to serve her sentence.
Mrs. Rahemipour was taken to the hospital in February last year due to her poor physical condition and was returned to the prison after two days and cardiac angiography.
