Iranian Political Prisoners Pay Tribute to Women’s Struggle on IWD2023

March 8, 2023
in Women's News

Iranian political prisoners in Evin, Gohardasht and Central Karaj prisons sent messages on International Women’s Day, paying tribute to Iranian women in their 44-year struggle for freedom and equality.

In their letter from Evin Prison, a group of supporters of the opposition People’s Mojahedin (PMOI/MEK) wrote:

“On International Women’s Day, we pay tribute to the brave women who rose up against the mullahs’ misogynistic regime and laid down their lives for the Iranian people’s democratic revolution. We are speaking about a generation that has been forging ahead for 44 years in the battlefields and medieval prisons of the clerical regime.

“These valiant women have a brilliant history of overcoming the worst contradictions, setting role models for our country’s women in their fight for change. From Tahereh Tolou with a dagger in her heart and blood-drenched body to a generation of women in the 1988 massacre who stood their ground to preserve their cause, to the generation of young women and girls who lead the protests today in the streets.

“We are a generation of men in Iran who are proud of the emergence of such competent women at the forefront of the fight for freedom. Women like Fatemeh Amini, Azam Rouhi Ahangarn, and other women who stepped into the path of struggle during the disgraceful rule of the Pahlavi Dynasty, to the thousands of PMOI women who, under the leadership of Maryam Rajavi, represent Iranian women. As Mrs. Rajavi said, the clerical regime will be overthrown by these free and emancipated women.”

A group of PMOI/MEK political prisoners in the Central Prison of Karaj also sent a message, which reads in part:

“Today, women are spearheading and leading the protests in Iran and playing their role in the movement to overthrow the regime. Relying on the solid experiences of PMOI women, with role models such as Ashraf Rajavi, Saba Haft-Baradaran, and Asiyeh Rakhshani, and under Maryam Rajavi’s leadership, they forge ahead. In this path, our women and sisters in the Resistance Units in different cities are shining examples. Iranian women who have been suppressed by the two monarchical and religious dictatorships are now taking to the streets, crying out against the oppressors and rejecting all forms of dictatorship.”

Another group of Iranian political prisoners in Gohardasht Prison of Karaj (Rajaishahr) also sent a message, in parts of which they wrote:

“This time, the clerical regime, in extreme fear of being overthrown, removed its mask and resorted to poisoning our innocent daughters and children in schools and high schools, amounting to genocide and a brutal massacre. This blatant atrocity and political and cultural terrorism will not be broken apart unless by the uproar of rebellious women. The women and girls who have organized in the role of vanguards and leaders have shaken the ideology of the fundamentalist regime.

“No doubt, their pioneering role is indebted to the experience of organization by PMOI and combatant women who led the way in political and military fields. This has been materialized in the political leadership of Maryam Rajavi in the National Council of Resistance of Iran. She has cracked the ruling regime’s misogynistic stereotypes and organized men and women in Resistance Units who have paved the way for a revolutionary uprising and the possibility of continuing it until the oppressed people win.”
