Zahra Safaei received a prison term of 8 years and Parastoo Mo’ini received 6 years
The clerical regime’s Judiciary issued its inhuman verdict of 20 years of imprisonment for a mother and her children found guilty of supporting the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
According to the verdict issued on January 23, 2021, and made public on February 7, political prisoner Zahra Safaei, her daughter, political prisoner Parastoo Mo’ini, and her son, Mohammad Massoud Mo’ini have been sentenced respectively to 8, 6 and 6 years’ imprisonment.
The mother and her children are charged with “assembly and collusion to act against national security through communicating with the PMOI,” “advancing the PMOI objectives,” and “participating in PMOI meetings.” They are also charged with “propaganda activities against the state by writing slogans (on the walls), reading out statements and posting banners in public thoroughfares.”
Political prisoner Parastoo Mo’ini and her brother, Mohammad Massoud, were sentenced to five years in prison for “assembly and collusion” and one year for “propaganda against the state,” adding up to a total of six years’ imprisonment for each of them.
Zahra Safaei was sentenced to five years for “assembly and collusion,” one year for “propaganda against the state,” and two years for insulting the mullahs’ former and present supreme leaders, Ali Khamenei and Ruhollah Khomeini, which add up to a total of 8 years.
Zahra Safaei and her daughter, Parastoo Mo’ini, were arrested by intelligence forces in Tehran on February 24, 2020 and imprisoned in the Intelligence Ministry Ward 209 of Evin Prison. In mid-April, completion of their interrogations, they were banished to the notorious Qarchak Prison and detained among prisoners convicted of common and violent crimes in violation of the principle of separation of the categories of crimes.
Mrs. Safaei was temporarily released on a 300-million-Toman bail on June 28, 2020 until final disposition of her case. But on July 26, when she referred to the Evin Courthouse to follow up on her own and her daughter’s case, intelligence agents arrested her. Subsequently, on July 27, she was sent back to Qarchak.
Mohammad Massoud Mo’ini was summoned for the first time by the Ministry of Justice in Tehran Province on August 24, 2020, without having committed any crime.
