On the eve of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Iranian regime held a few meetings dealing with this issue
in an effort to portray itself as taking steps on problems concerning women.
One such meeting examined the reasons, dimensions and solutions for violence against women, featuring Shahindokht Molaverdi, presidential deputy for Women and Family Affairs. In this meeting Molaverdi claimed: There is no global convention yet to set a single, permanent model to universally fight violence against women and oblige all countries to define and implement it according to their own laws.
In reference to the Universal Declaration for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Molaverdi said: Every country must define the law to eliminate violence against women based on its own laws. Despite the fact that the International Convention on Violence Against Women was written 16 years ago and placed on agenda in 1999, we still see that women are harassed and subjected to violence every day all across the globe.
In another part of her remarks, Molaverdi made a shocking assertion when she said: Sometimes it is the victim’s abusive words and behavior and moral that incite violence against her.
