Students at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad staged a protest rally on Monday, February 9, 2026, chanting slogans such as “Students may die, but they will not accept humiliation,” and “Freedom, freedom, freedom.” They vowed to stand to the end and remain faithful to their fellow students killed during the January uprising.
Ferdowsi University students demanded the release of their detained fellow students.
Demonstrators also condemned what they described as escalating security crackdowns and increasing pressure from university security and disciplinary bodies.
After the brutal crackdown on the nationwide uprising in January 2026, students have resumed their protests and sit-ins on university campuses.

Meanwhile, students at the Universities of Tabriz, Khajeh Nasir, Amirkabir, Tehran, and Islamic Azad University (Karaj branch) issued separate statements reaffirming their boycott of classes and examinations and underscoring their commitment to continuing the student strike movement.
In another development, the cultural and student deputy of the Minister of Health, Massoud Habibi announced that some 100 university students had lost their lives during the January 2026 uprising, adding that more students are still being detained.
