Golaleh Mahmoudi Azar, 26, from Mahabad, was killed alongside her husband during the nationwide protests in Tehran on the evening of January 8, 2026, after being directly shot by regime security forces. The couple were residents of Tehran.
Following the return of her body to Mahabad, Golaleh Mahmoudi Azar was buried under a heavy security presence and in an atmosphere of enforced silence.
According to credible information, Iranian regime security forces have pressured the families of those killed to submit to forced televised confessions in exchange for the release of their children’s bodies. In these coerced statements, the families are compelled to falsely attribute the killing of their loved ones to protesters rather than to state forces.
