Families of Death-Row Political Prisoners Rally Behind Hunger Strikers in 87th Week of Protest

Tuesday, September 23, 2025, marked the 87th consecutive week of the No to Execution Tuesdays’ campaign in 52 prisons across Iran. Families of death-row political prisoners rally behind hunger strikers.

This week’s statement by the campaign addressed the execution of Babak Shahbazi on the anniversary of the 2022 uprising. The statement read in part:

“The brutal execution of Babak Shahbazi, one of the participants in the No to Execution Tuesday’s campaign, without allowing a final meeting with his family, stands as a shocking example of inhuman conduct and a blatant violation of human rights by this regime. His secret transfer from the ward for execution prompted protests and a sit-in by his fellow inmates at Ghezel Hesar Prison.”

In Solidarity, Families of Death-Row Political Prisoners Take to the Streets

Since the early weeks of the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign, the families of death-row political prisoners have played a pivotal role in sustaining and amplifying this movement.

The active presence of mothers, fathers, spouses, and children has not only reinforced its social dimension but has also lent it a deeply human and emotional face.

In particular, the mothers of political prisoners—who have stood firm despite security threats and pressure—have become symbols of resistance. They have repeatedly declared that no level of intimidation can silence their voices.

One mother, speaking during a recent gathering, said: “We are here for the lives of our children. Each rising noose burns a mother’s heart and deepens the wounds of society.”

Today, the No to Execution Tuesdayscampaign—active in dozens of prisons, including Evin, Ghezel Hesar, Rajai Shahr, and Qarchak—has become a powerful emblem of solidarity between death-row political prisoners and their families in defiance of the Iranian regime’s machinery of killing and repression.
