Bahareh Shiri, the mother of a slain protester, was sentenced to six years in prison for seeking justice for her son.

Bahareh Shiri, the mother of slain protester Ali Abbasi killed during the 2022 nationwide protests in Samirom, Isfahan Province, was sentenced to six years in prison by the 1st Branch of the Public Court for demanding justice for her son.

Bahareh Shiri was denied the right to a lawyer of her choice.

Last year, after the regime killed Ali Abbasi, his father was detained. Security forces sabotaged Ali’s gravestone and removed the words “in the name of freedom” and “fallen for his country” from his stone.

The tomb stones of Ali Abbasi. His picture emerged from a map of Iran, the first part of his stone read, “In the name of freedom.” The third stone read, “Fallen for his country.” His picture has been changed and two of the stones have been erased.

The clerical regime has been systematically arresting relatives of protesters slain during the 2022-2023 uprising and handing down heavy sentences to them in a bid to silence the bereaved families.

Mahsa Yazdani, the mother of a slain protester, Mohammad Javad Zahedi, is presently in jail serving a five-year sentence. She has another son, only 4 years old.

Farzaneh Barzekar has been sentenced to 24 months of suspended jail time and fined 20 million Tomans.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
