A recent study on women’s employment and unemployment in Iran shows that an average of 50,000 women have been excluded from the job market every year in the period between 2005 and 2015.
Women’s economic participation rate has been 17 per cent for women in 2005 compared to 64.7 per cent for men. In 2015, women’s economic participation dropped to 13.3 compared to 63.2 per cent for men.
The women’s unemployment rate increased by 2.3 per cent while for young women, the unemployment rate shows an increase of 10.2 per cent during the same period. (The state-run Mehr news agency – December 17, 2016)
