Following the uproar on a woman’s solo singing with Tehran’s Symphonic Orchestra paying tribute to the Shiite third Imam and martyrs of Ashura in the sacred month of Moharram, a misogynous member of the mullahs’ parliament urged the Judiciary to “step in manly to prevent
cultural infiltration and trampling of Islamic values”.
In an interview with the Judiciary’s website, Mizan, Fatemeh Alia said the month-long opera that has begun on the third night of the lunar month of Moharram at Ferdowsi Amphitheatre features “a woman singing solo in the presence of men” while “a man accompanies her by reciting a poem about Imam Hussein and the Ashura”.
The clerical regime’s laws ban women from singing and performing in public and in the presence of men. Such tactical measures allowed by one faction to let off the explosive steam of public disenchantment with the repressive regime, severely shake the pillars of the Iranian mullahs’ regime that has solidified its rule by subjugation of women and massive social repression in the guise of Islam.
