The Revolutionary Court of Golpayegan handed down a 13-year jail sentence for political prisoner Massoumeh Yavari.
Political prisoner Massoumeh Yavari received seven years on the charge of “destruction of public property,” five years for “membership” in the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, and one year for “propaganda against the state.”
If the verdict is upheld, Mrs. Yavari will have to serve seven years in prison. Political prisoner Massoumeh Yavari was exonerated from the charges of Moharebeh (waging war on God) and communicating with hostile governments.
The Revolutionary Court of Golpayegan examined her charges last Tuesday, December 5, 2023.
Golpayegan is one of the counties in the central province of Isfahan.
Ms. Yavari was arrested by agents of the Intelligence Ministry at her home on September 4, 2023. Some 20 Intelligence Ministry agents attacked her husband as he was entering the house.
The agents had a warrant instructing them to even break into the house and make the arrests. They ransacked the house and confiscated some of their personal belongings.
Born in 1978, Massoumeh Yavari is a housewife and the mother of two children. She lives in Golpayegan in Isfahan Province. Security forces arrested her in Tehran in September 2009. She served three years in prison for taking part in the protests and having contacts with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
Political prisoner Massoumeh Yavari is very ill suffering from various illnesses, including heart disease, blocked arteries, and severe hypothyroidism. She also recently underwent lumbar disc surgery. She is reportedly in dire conditions in prison.
The authorities arrested her son, Mohammad Mehdi Vossoughian, on September 20, to put pressure on her to accept the charges under interrogation and make forced confessions.
Mohammad Mehdi, 21, was viciously tortured and suffered severe intestinal infection while in detention. He was in dire health when released on a heavy bail after two months.
Fearing the outbreak of protests and its imminent overthrow, the clerical regime is cracking down on dissidents and activists, particularly the supporters of the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Recently, they executed one such supporter, Ali Saber Motlagh, 62, in Lakan Prison of Rasht. They have also re-arrested many of the PMOI prisoners who had finished their sentences and released from prison.
