Zahra Azadpour was killed on the evening of January 9, 2026, in Karaj, during nationwide protests across Iran, after being shot by regime security forces.
Her family located her body three days later. Zahra Azadpour was subsequently buried in Eslamshahr, near Tehran.
Zahra Azadpour was 27 years old, born in 1998, and was a mountaineer and a player for the Mehregan Pardis women’s football team in Tehran. She had previously played for the Azarakhsh and Saba teams and had been invited to training camps of Iran’s national women’s football teams.
In addition to football, she was regarded as a professional mountaineer and had successfully summited Mount Damavand and Espilit Peak.
Her body was handed over to her family on January 12, 2026, three days after her killing, and she was laid to rest in Eslamshahr.
