Mehregan Namavar: Continued Detention of Poet and Writer Assassination Attempt

Mehregan Namavar

Mehregan Namavar, a writer, poet, and civil activist from Dehdasht, in Iran’s Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, was severely injured in an apparent assassination attempt carried out by plainclothes agents on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

38-year-old writer was violently attacked near the “Salamat Road” area, in a region known as “Labak Valley.” The assault was carried out by three individuals — two men and a woman wearing a headscarf and face mask — who reportedly chased Namavar’s car, forced it to stop, and physically assaulted her.

As a result of the attack, Ms. Namavar sustained serious injuries to her eyes, face, and legs. Her current condition is reported as critical.  Eyewitnesses stated that the assailants confiscated her mobile phone following the beating. The attackers were reportedly traveling in a white Peugeot with four occupants.

This attack comes less than two weeks after Mehregan Namavar’s release from Dehdasht Central Prison, where she had been held for 16 days. She was arrested on Sunday, March 2, 2025, by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence in Dehdasht and released on bail on March 17.
