Hamideh Zeraii arrested by security forces, taken to undisclosed location
On Monday, May 29, 2023, Hamideh Zeraii, one of the detainees of the nationwide protests in 2022, was arrested by security forces at her residence and transferred to an undisclosed location.
There is no information available regarding the reasons for the arrest, place of detention, or charges brought against Hamideh Zeraii.
On Monday, May 29, 2023, Hamideh went to retrieve her car, which had been previously confiscated on the orders of IRGC Intelligence in relation to her previous arrest on November 3, 2022 during the 40th day commemoration ceremony of Hadis Najafi in Karaj. After returning and contacting her family via telephone, she expressed concerns about the possibility of being re-arrested by this institution.
Hamideh Zarai, 37 and from Rasht, was a master’s student in the Research Sciences branch at Tehran Azad University. On November 3, 2023, she was arrested during the fortieth-day commemoration of Hadis Najafi in Karaj by security forces. However, on February 7, 2023, following the regime’s amnesty show, she was released from the Kachouii Prison of Karaj.
Hamideh Zeraii was previously summoned to Branch 22 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Karaj on May 3, 2023, on charges of “engaging in propaganda activities in favor of groups opposing” the clerical regime.
According to the official statement of the mullahs’ Judiciary, the cases of individuals who were released through the amnesty memorandum in February 2023 have been closed. Therefore, it was presumed that the case of Hamideh Zeraii, who was among the detainees of the recent protests, would be considered closed.
