Eleven lawyers, including 4 women, are summoned to the Evin Security Court
In recent days, the 7th branch of Evin Security Court has summoned several lawyers, the names of 11 of whom have been obtained so far. Among these 11 attorneys-at-law, four female lawyers stand out: Mitra Izadifar, Marjan Esfahanian, Samin Cheraghi, and Sara Hamzezadeh.
The common factor among most of these lawyers is their involvement during the protests and criticism of the adopted procedures. The cases filed for the summoned attorneys-at-law date back to the year 2022. (The state-run Sharq newspaper, May 12, 2023)
Marjan Esfahanian is an attorney-at-law and a member of the Central Bar Association.
Samin Cheraghi is an attorney-at-law, a member of the National Elite Foundation, and a member of the Central Bar Association. According to a recent notification received by her, she is required to appear before the 7th branch of the Security Court (located in Evin Prison) on Monday, May 21, 2023, to defend against charges leveled against her.
Sara Hamzezadeh is a lawyer and a member of the Semnan Bar Association. She must appear before the 7th branch of the Security Court (located in Evin Prison) on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, to defend against charges against her.
Ms. Hamzezadeh was apprehended by security forces at her workplace in Shahroud in January 2023 and was released shortly after depositing bail.
The 5th branch of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Shahroud was examining her case on charges of “propaganda against the state.” Still, she said, “This case has been discontinued following the amnesty circular.”
