On the eve of International Workers Day, security forces raided the residence of an imprisoned teacher, Mohammad Habibi. They violently arrested a number of teachers and labor activists in that house.
The raid took place on April 28, 2023. Security forces arrested Khadijeh Pak-Zamir, the wife of political prisoner Mohammad Habibi. Others arrested were Reyhaneh Ansarinejad, Asal Mohammadi, Hirad Pirbadaghi, Anisha Assadollahi, Sarvnaz Ahmadi, Kamyar Fakour, Hassan Ebrahimi, Jaleh Rouhzad, and Oldouz Hashemi.
In Iran, Teachers’ Day follows International Workers’ Day. The clerical regime seeks to prevent teachers and workers from holding legitimate and rightful protests by arresting and summoning teachers and labor activists.
Iranian workers have been on strike for 10 days in more than 100 industrial companies and workshops in 38 cities in 13 provinces. Most workers are from the oil, gas, petrochemical, steel, power plants, and copper mines industries.
It has been reported by the state media in Iran that the executive director of the Special Pars Regional Organization had vowed to expel the 4,000 workers of this petrochemical complex and replace them with another 4,000. (The state-run Entekhab website, April 28, 2023)
