The Revolutionary Court of Tehran informed Ms. Mazloum’s lawyer of this verdict on October 20, 2020. She received a one-year sentence on the charge of “assembly and collusion with the intention of committing crime through contacting the People’s Mojahedin Organization.” Farangis Mazloum received another six months for “disseminating propaganda against the state and in favor of dissident groups.”
So Farnagis Mazloum, Soheil Arabi’s mother, received a total of 18 months in prison.
Intelligence Ministry agents arrested Ms. Mazloum on July 22, 2019. They took her to the security Ward 209 of Evin Prison where she was detained in solitary confinement for 2.5 months. Despite health conditions and heart illness, they interrogated Farangis Mazloum under torture.
Farangis Mazloum went on hunger strike on August 19, 2019 to protest her conditions and mistreatment in jail.
After conclusion of her interrogations on October 8, 2019, prison authorities arraigned her with her charges. They finally released her temporarily on a bail of 250 million Tomans until her court proceedings are completed.
Ms. Mazloum has been under constant pressure and harassment in recent years after her son, political prisoner Soheil Arabi, was arrested and detained. She had previously declared that “I am being tortured every day and night.”
Political prisoner Soheil Arabi
Political prisoner Soheil Arabi was transferred to solitary confinement in Gohardasht Prison (Rajaishahr) on September 18, 2020. He has been held incommunicado without having any visits or contacts with his family. Farangis Mazloum Soheil Arabi’s mother announced that her son had been taken to solitary because he sent out an audio file explaining the disastrous inhuman conditions in the Great Tehran Penitentiary.
Despite passage of one month, there is no news of this political prisoner and he is considered as a victim of forced disappearance.
The Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran issued a statement on October 21, 2020, saying that political prisoner Soheil Arabi, 35, had been once again transferred to solitary confinement in Ward 2A of Evin Prison. The ward is under the control of the IRGC Intelligence. One month ago, Mr. Arabi was abruptly taken out of GTP and to an unknown location. During this time, he has been held incommunicado without any contact with his family. This is the third time this year, this prisoner is being taken to Evin’s Ward 2A and interrogated.
