The Hon. Judy Sgro – Member of Parliament Canada
Speech to the FreeIran2020 Global Summit: Iran Rising Up for Freedom – Resistance Units Key to Victory
Madam Rajavi and your team, all of the followers of the NCRI and MEK and all of our Iranian Canadians that are watching or participating in the program.
It is a great pleasure to be with all of you and thousands of people who have joined us today from around the globe.
I have a difficult task after all the distinguishes speakers that have gone before me and who talked about why we are here today. But I feel also privilege to be able to sum it up in one short sentence and that’s our late senator David Smith used to say to support wholeheartedly the Ten Point Plan of Mrs. Rajavi and her desire for a free and democratic Iran.
For those of us who have know on your movement and participated for many years, who have been with you in all the challenges through these hard years, your courage and dedication have become more than ever obvious.
All of us who have supported your quest for freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, have experienced firsthand the demonization campaign waged against your movement in various forms.
My good friend and former college honorable Arvin Cutler used the term Khamenie’s Iran, to distinguish between the great people of Iran and the ruling regime and I cannot agree more.
In Canada we have had our share of atrocities committed by the Iranian regime’s leaders against our own citizens just a name of you that torture and killing Zahra Kazemi and then the death of professor Ahmad Imani, the imprisonment of dual Iranian- Canadians and most recently the tragic death of 57 Canadians on board flight PS752, shot down by the IRGC missiles.
But I want to finish with a positive note.
Continuing to recognize the tremendous leadership of Madame Rajavi and her whole team but none of these sacrifices are in vein, the pure presence of such a continued organized movement, gives not only the people of Iran hope, but all who have long advocated for free and democratic Iran.
Much hope for a victory is near. Let us accelerate that by joining our voices to that defying youth in Iran chanting freedom is our inevitable right. Hazer, Hazer, Hazer,
God bless all of you, stay safe, stay well, stay strong until we meet again.
Thank you.
