Young Iranian women detained for entering sports stadiums

To defy the August 31 deadline set by FIFA for the Iranian regime to allow Iranian women enter stadiums to watch football, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested several young women on August 12, 2019, for attempting to enter Iranian stadiums disguised as men.

Iranian officials are not willing to let women in the sports stadiums and let up on restrictions on women.

The discriminatory ban on Iranian women must end immediately and the international community must take urgent action to ensure that women are allowed access to all sports stadiums in Iran without risk of punishment.

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
