“At least 2,000 girl children in #Iran have undergone repeated miscarriages and will soon become young widows.”
This was announced by Tayyebeh Siavoshi, a member of the mullahs’ parliament (Majlis).
“With the passage of time and problems, these girl children go through child marriages and turn into young widows. Children who are between 13 and 14 years of age become both widows and heads of household,” Siavoshi asserted.
She added, “These girl children get immediately pregnant within a year after they get married and because their bodies are still not prepared, they suffer miscarriages… These girls are children themselves and they face a higher risk in their first pregnancy compared to the second.”
In another part of her remarks, Siavoshi said, “Another issue is that some of these children are forced to marry men who are old. Sometimes, the age difference is up to 30 years. And the girls are forced into such marriages.” (The state-run Fararu news agency, August 14, 2017)
