Prisoner Nahid Gorji, who suffers from diabetes and heart complications, has been deprived of medical care and receiving her much needed medications.
The 50-year-old detainee has been sentenced to five years in prison for her activities in the social networks on the internet. She has been detained in Vakilabad prison of Mashhad since May 8, 2016.
An informed source said Vakilabad Prison authorities do not allow Ms. Gorji to go to hospital. Neither do they allow her to receive the medicines her family take for her.
The source said there is no political prisoners ward in Vakilabad and therefore, Ms. Gorji is detained with common criminals who are sometimes very dangerous.
Nahid Gorji was arrested on October 20, 2014 in Mashhad and detained in solitary confinement. She was subsequently accused of spreading propaganda against the state and acting against national security and sentenced to five years in prison. She was arrested for her activities in the Facebook social networks and her anti-government posts.
