An unwritten law imposed against female singers in some provinces is now being implemented in Tehran.
On 16 February a spectator contacted ‘Shargh’ daily explaining that the microphones of women singers were cut off in a student’s concert held in the Unity Hall in Tehran.
The orchestra’s conductor Amin Salemi said, “We heard about the issue from those attending the concert and realized that the women’s voices were only broadcasted from the loudspeakers on the stage. The voice technician said that some men with radios in hand came before the concert ordered him to cut-off the voices of the female singers. He did not provide a clear answer on who those individuals were.”
