NCRI – May 10, 2013 – Nearly 1,000 women residing in Camp Liberty in their letter to international relevant authorities and organizations, while pointing out a number of repressive measures and psychological torture of residents by Iraqi forces carried out upon agreement or before the eyes of Martin Kobler’s representatives, called for opening the doors of Liberty to impartial international observers and prevention of another massacre.
In their letter to the United Nations Secretary-General, High Commissioner for Human Rights, High Commissioner for Refugees, U.S. Secretary of State, Amnesty International and other international organizations advocating human rights, the women residents of Liberty, while referring to the failure of resettlement project and lack of security and minimum humanitarian requirements at the camp where is nothing more than a prison, wrote:
“It is over fourteen months now that Government of Iraq and Special Representative of UN Secretary-General for Iraq Martin Kobler, in a joint attempt, have compelled us to leave our home of 26 years in Camp Ashraf that we had built entirely at our own expense and toil, to come to Camp Liberty…In such unbearable conditions and under immense pressures, Martin Kobler has imposed a continuous, dirty and exacting psychological war on us on a daily basis through a team of its staff in UNAMI under the pretext of human rights monitors who instead of protecting our humanitarian and human rights, ending the medical and logistical blockade on us, concentrating on Iraqi forces’ conduct and on sites where missiles might be launched against us, and restraining Sadeq Mohammed Kadhim, are keeping a watch on the victims and in practice impose a twofold control on us that on many occasions is nothing but psychological torture…
Every day, without asking for any permission, they enter our private dwelling places and interfere in our private life, covertly record our voices, and take pictures or shot movies of any place they like without our consent…Their objective is for us to become desperate out of the enormity of pressures in this prison to succumb to the mullahs’ regime in Iran as Martin Kobler has publicly promised this regime. Time and again, face to face with Kobler, Liberty residents have underlined that even at the cost of their lives they will not surrender to the religious fascism ruling Iran out of these pressures and psychological tortures by him and his agents.”
Referring to Martin Kobler’s lies against the residents, the women residing at Camp Liberty wrote:
“Martin Kobler and the unending psychological war he has declared on us that paves the way for our suppression and yet another bloodshed against the residents by the Iranian regime and Maliki. ..We appeal to all international human rights organizations to do their outmost to open the doors of Liberty prison to impartial and independent human rights and fact-finding bodies, as well as lawyers, parliamentarians and reporters so that before another overt massacre against us can unfold, the covert actions and crimes jointly committed by Government of Iraq and Martin Kobler can be disclosed. With the hope that your actions would save the lives of 3200 defenseless human beings in Camp Liberty placed at new risk due to actions by Martin Kobler.”
