NCRI – A conference entitled “Women, the force for democratic change in Iran” was held in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The conference participants included a number of members of Romanian senate and parliament, Iranian activists in Romanian, and representatives from the Syrian opposition.
The conference was chaired by Mr. Romeo Nikoara, member of Human Rights Committee in the Romanian Parliament.
The conference speakers praised the Iranian women’s resistance against the religious dictatorship in Iran and specially applauded the 1,000 leading female members of the Iranian opposition in Camp Liberty in Iraq.
The conference speakers also condemned crimes committed by Maliki and the Iranian regime against the camp residents, and in particular the rocket attack on the camp on February 9, 2013.
The rocket attack left eight residents dead and more than 100 injured. The speakers demanded that the residents be returned to Camp Ashraf for better safety and protection.
Mr. Romeo Nikoara described the purpose of the conference as a follow up to the March 9 Woman’s Day international conference held in Paris to honor the Woman’s Day and to condemn the heinous mortar attack on Camp Liberty.
The resolution of the conference held on March 12, presented by Mr. Nikoara, states:
1. We condemn the heinous mortar attack by the agents of the Iranian regime and the Iraqi Prime Minister on Camp Liberty. The residents of Camp Liberty are Protected Persons under the Geneva Fourth Convention.
2. We demand an impartial and comprehensive investigation of the attack and request that the perpetuators be tried by an impartial international authority.
3. Given the continuing threats against the Camp Liberty residents, we request that they be returned to Camp Ashraf where they can afford extra protection.
4. We believe that the UN Special Representative in Iraq, Martin Kobler, has long ago abandoned his impartiality and his decisions have led to the inhuman treatment of the Camp Liberty residents. Martin Kobler must be removed from this position because of his complicity; an impartial person should replace him immediately.
Mrs. Mariana Popa, a distinguished Romanian human rights advocate said: “My visit with Mrs. Rajavi offered me an opportunity to learn about a Middle Eastern woman whose leadership and extraordinary capabilities has resulted in a major movement. She helps the movement members to realize their potentials and boosts their capabilities to strive for friendship and peace.”
Mrs. Elena-Ramona Uioreanu, a member of the Romanian Parliament said: “During my trip to Paris to attend the International Women’s Day, I met with Mrs. Rajavi and obtained a copy of her book on the women’s struggles against fundamentalism. The book is quite extraordinary and valuable. We should expect major development in Iran. Until then, our most important priority is the safety of the Camp Liberty residents. In our opinion, the best immediate solution is that of relocation to Camp Ashraf where the resident will be safer.”
Mr. Mario Ovidiu Oprea, the first secretary of the Romanian Senate said: “I believe that the courageous leadership of Mrs. Rajavi will triumph and we look forward to a free Iran where the people will be able to determine the future.”
Mrs. Ahmad Khalid of the Syrian opposition said: “ We thank the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) for their solidarity with the people of Syria. The Iranian and Syrian people share a common enemy and are part of the same struggle.”
Mr. Khalid condemned the inhuman conditions of Camp Liberty and the mistreatment of its residents and demanded that the camp residents be immediately transferred to a safe place or back to Camp Ashraf for their protection.
