Coronavirus – Regime’s secrecy leads to spread of Coronavirus in Iran

The death toll due to the outbreak of Coronavirus in Iran is very high compared to the number of cases reported to have tested positive. Iran is the worst country hit by the Coronavirus outside China.

As of the evening of January 25, 2022, the COVID-19 death toll in 547 cities across Iran reached a staggering half a million people.

The criminal cover-up and disseminating lies and misinformation not only added to the rapid spread of the virus in Iran but has resulted in the transmission of the virus to many other countries.

Elham Sheikhi, 23 and a futsal player, died in Qom on February 26, 2020 due to the Covid-19 infection. Earlier, Narges Khanalizadeh, 25 and a nurse, died at Milad Hospital of Lahijan on February 25, 2020 due to coronavirus infection.

The regime’s concealment and lack of transparency on the spread of the coronavirus and the officials’ failure to provide the necessary equipment, masks and disinfectants has outraged the public. People line up in long queues in front of pharmacies to buy face masks, alcohol, disinfectants and other basic medical items but the pharmacies are out of supply and cannot respond to the public’s demands.

There is a shortage of protective equipment such as masks, gloves, gowns and protective shields in some medical centers; nurses and medical staff are working in difficult conditions to treat and care for the patients.

Hoarding networks within the government are stealing the medical supplies and selling them at inflated prices in black markets.

On the other hand, the lives of prisoners and especially political prisoners are at risk due to unacceptable sanitary conditions in Iran’s prisons. They must be released immediately and unconditionally.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, called on the World Health Organization (WHO) to immediately dispatch its supervisory and medical teams to Iran to help contain the rising number of coronavirus victims.
