Summoning of 12 Tarbiat Modares University Students in Tehran
As the anniversary of the nationwide 2022-2023 uprising approaches and universities prepare to reopen, the clerical regime’s security services have escalated their pressure on students. On Saturday, August 12, 2023, the National Student Guild Councils disclosed that a minimum of 200 female students from Bu-Ali Sina University in Hamedan, western Iran, were suddenly expelled from their dormitories without prior notification.
The realization of their expulsion came as these students attempted to secure dormitory accommodations through online reservations. According to the National Student Guild Councils, the deprivation of dormitory rights for female students at Bu-Ali Sina University has been attributed to a report by the university’s security department. The report cited breaches of dress code regulations and smoking as reasons, with the majority of affected students being female. These students have been instructed to draft commitment letters to regain their dormitory privileges.
The National Student Guild Councils have also reported that the university’s security department has listed students’ names without providing concrete evidence, basing their actions solely on vague and arbitrary accusations. Such actions contradict the university’s established rules and guidelines. These rules affirm that no entity, including the security department, can revoke a student’s dormitory residence or curtail any student rights or facilities without issuing an official summons, initiating a formal case, and ultimately delivering a disciplinary verdict.
Consequently, denying students dormitory accommodations and imposing commitment letter requirements are regarded as apparent infringements by the security and student affairs departments.
Summoning of 12 Tarbiat Modares University Students in Tehran
Furthermore, security institutions have recently summoned multiple students from Tarbiat Modares University. The National Student Guild Councils have reported that a minimum of 12 students from this university were summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence.
Using anonymous contact numbers, intelligence agencies have reached out to select students from Tarbiat Modares University, instructing them to appear at the Ministry of Intelligence to provide a written commitment. Often, these summons are made without revealing the identity of the intelligence agency initiating the call, and the rationale behind the summoning remains undisclosed.
When a student’s call remains unanswered, the relevant intelligence agency resorted to contacting the student’s family. The Mullah regime aims to stifle potential student protests on Mahsa Amini’s tragic death anniversary through these measures. By instilling an atmosphere of fear and intimidation among students, the regime seeks to suppress any form of protest preemptively.
