Retired teacher Nahid Fat’halian tested positive for the Covid-19 in Evin Prison

in Women's News

Retired teacher Nahid Fat’halian has tested positive for the Covid-19. Intelligence services have detained her in the women’s ward of Evin Prison in legal limbo since April 2020.

Mrs. Fat’halian needs to receive proper treatment, while her stay in prison would threaten the health of other prisoners. Evin Prison authorities have not tested other prisoners and have not separated her from other inmates.

Intelligence services arrested the retired teacher Nahid Fat’halian in mid-April 2020. Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran convened on September 16, 2020, to examine her charges. The charges leveled against Mrs. Fat’halian included “assembly and collusion against national security,” “propaganda against the state,” and “destruction of public properties.”

The Prosecutor said she participated in the November 2019 nationwide protests, and distributed posters and flyers protesting the living conditions of teachers and retirees.

The court cited closed circuit cameras had recorded her participation in destruction of a bank and setting it ablaze.

Agents of the intelligence services arrested the retired teacher Nahid Fat’halian on April 14, 2020, and took her under interrogations. On May 9, 2020, she was transferred to a solitary cell in the Intelligence Ministry detention center known as Ward 209 in Evin Prison. Her interrogations ended in early September and she was transferred to the women’s ward.

Mrs. Nahid Fat’halian was arrested along with 17 other citizens on similar charges. The common charge against all of them is “cooperation with one of the opposition organizations (i.e., the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK)).

The Iranian Resistance issued a statement on May 5, 2020, publishing the names and pictures of 20 Iranians including six women and two elite students from Sharif Industrial University who have been arrested in Tehran and other cities.

The six arrested women are Nahid Fat’halian, Parastoo Mo’ini, Zahra Safaei, Forough Taghipour, Marzieh Farsi from Tehran, and Somayyeh Bidi from Karaj.

ABOUT US

NCRI Women Committee

We work extensively with Iranian women outside the country and maintain a permanent contact with women inside Iran. The Women’s Committee is actively involved with many women’s rights organizations and NGO’s and the Iranian diaspora.
The committee is a major source of much of the information received from inside Iran with regards to women. Attending UN Human Rights Council meetings and other international or regional conferences on women’s issues and engaging in a relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny are part of the activities of members and associates of the committee.
