Massoumeh Asgari, a retired teacher and political prisoner, remains incarcerated in Tehran’s Evin Prison despite suffering from multiple physical and psychological illnesses. The 60-year-old detainee continues to be held without any medical attention or adequate treatment from prison or judicial authorities.
Following the partial destruction of sections of Evin Prison, Massoumeh Asgari was transferred along with dozens of other inmates to Qarchak Prison in Varamin. During her time there, she was placed in solitary confinement, alongside several other women prisoners, for protesting the inhumane conditions of the facility. She was later returned to Ward 6 of Evin Prison, where her health has reportedly deteriorated severely.
Family members and those close to Ms. Asgari have warned that the continuation of her imprisonment under such dire conditions poses a serious threat to her life.
