On July 26, 2023, the people of Cuneo welcomed two representatives from the Iranian Resistance in solidarity with Iranian women’s struggle.
Elham and Khosrow Nikzat stood on the balcony of the house of Duccio Galimberti, a national hero of Italy, while accompanied by the mayor of Cuneo, Ms. Partizia Manassero, and its governor, Mr. Luca Robaldo. They spoke about the Iranian people’s resistance and the Iranian women’s struggle.
They told the people of Cuneo, “Today, in Iran, we live under religious fascism, which is like the fascism of those days (in your country) in many ways. This is why the words of Duccio Galimberti ring in our ears, just like we were the partisans of those days.”
Khosrow Nikzat is an Iranian physician who works at the hospital of Cuneo. The event in Cuneo marked the 80th anniversary of the speech by Duccio Galimberti who said, “We will continue to struggle until the elimination of the last German Nazist.”
Elham Nikzat is a political activist who has been living in Italy for ten years. She spoke about women’s tragic conditions in Iran. She said Mahsa Amini was brutally murdered by the guidance patrols (morality police) just because a few strands of her hair could be seen from underneath her veil.
Mrs. Nikzat explained, “Women have no security in Iran. They must be careful when they walk in the street and watch out for the guidance patrols who could arrest, torture, and sometimes murder them.”
Elham Nikzat added, “Since I came to Italy, I have chosen to stand with the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), because it is the only alternative capable of overthrowing the Iranian regime and establishing freedom and democracy in Iran.”
The city of Cuneo commemorates Italy’s national hero, Duccio Galimberti, every year by inviting representatives from various resistance movements from around the world. This year, they invited supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) which is fighting against the religious dictatorship in Iran.
