Former political prisoner Zeinab Hamrang Seyyed Beglu was arrested by security forces on Sunday, March 12, 2023, as she was leaving home. The agents took her to an unknown location.
Ms. Hamrang was released in October before the completion of her sentence.

In September 2022, Zeinab Hamrang went on a hunger and medicine strike to protest the Evin Prison authorities’ failure to observe the principle of the separation of crimes in the women’s ward of Evin and also in protest to the severe beating of prisoners.
The Revolutionary Court of Tehran sentenced Zeinab Hamrang to five years on “assembly and collusion” charges and one year on the charge of “propaganda against the state.”
According to the Article 134 of the clerical regime’s Penal Code, the five-year sentence applied to her.
Ms. Hamrang suffered from high blood pressure and kidney problems during her time in detention. She was also among those prisoners who contracted Covid-19. The prison authorities, however, did not agree to grant her medical leave.
