Female teachers and educators held four protests in one day, demanding the government’s response to their demands. Young teachers and the Literacy Movement’s teaching assistants in Tehran, teachers in Varamin, and Literacy Movement educators in Dezful held the protests.
Young teachers, known as “teachers with green report cards,” held the third day of their protest on Monday, September 6, 2021, outside the Education Ministry building in Tehran.

The young teachers have passed the Education Ministry’s 2020 employment exam, but the ministry has not hired them yet. Since last year, they have held numerous protest rallies, but the Education Ministry officials have not heeded any of their requests.
The official IRNA news agency also reported on September 6 a protest held by educators of the Literacy Movement in Dezful, a city in SW Khuzestan province. The Department of Education in Khuzestan recruited these educators before 2013. While Dezful needs 800 teachers, the Department of Education has employed only 100 Literacy Movement educators since 2013. And the department has announced that it will not hire any more educators recruited after 2013.
The protesting teachers in Dezful have B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. They have spent their younghood to teach students left out of school, but the Education Department has not taken any action to employ them officially.
Another group of Literacy Movement teaching assistants held another protest in Tehran on Monday, September 6, 2021. It was the third day of their protest outside the mullahs’ parliament. Many protesters spent the previous night on the street to begin their rally early in the morning.
Many of the Literacy Movement’s teaching assistants are women heads of households. They have been teaching for years in remote and impoverished areas. The clerical regime’s parliament had promised the teaching assistants to hire them after the July 23 employment exam. Nevertheless, their promise proved hollow. Presently, some 3,000 teaching assistants of the Literacy Movement are awaiting the disposition of their employment status. (The official ILNA news agency – September 6, 2021)
The educators of Varamin also held a protest on Monday, September 6, outside the city’s Municipality building. Their protest rally was over the city’s failure to give them land to build housing.
More than 25 years ago, the teachers and educators of Varamin received false promises of lands. Yet every time, they reduced the land area. Varamin’s city officials have benefited from doing so. The Housing Cooperative of Teachers also collaborated with the city officials to confiscate the educators’ lands.
